Myofascial Release is stretching of the fascia (connective tissue). The stretch is guided by feedback the therapist feels and/or sees from the client's body. This feedback tells the therapist how much force to use, the direction of the stretch and how long to stretch.
Myofascial Release is NOT a massage, but can be included in a massage session.
Myofascial Release is not recommended for anyone who is experiencing fever, diarrhea, vomiting, nausea, jaundice, varicose veins, bleeding, acute phlebitis, or thrombosis. In the case of high blood pressure or heart problems, avoid massage to the abdomen. Anyone with fractures or bruises should not receive massage on areas of injury. Pregnant women should check with their doctors first.
